Before launching Triumph & Disaster we made the decision that we would not call ourselves 100% Natural. Despite the fact many companies out there make such claims, we just felt that it was not the whole truth. It's not that we didn’t start out with 'Natural' in our heads, we did.
We briefed our chemists to engineer perfect 100% natural products, natural solutions with no hint of science or nasty chemicals. And so they did and we were stoked. We sat back in our leather armchairs with lighted stogies and patted ourselves on the back for creating unique high performing and 100% natural products - stoked.
Then we slept on it and lived with it a while, we started to explore the in's and outs of the industry and the hard facts of some of the claims people were making. We noticed even the most earnest brands using language like; ‘the maximum amount of natural and organic ingredients’ or ‘natural ingredients may undergo some ecological processing’ and we saw people using the term ‘Organic’ as a general fix all for ‘green’ credentials.
In other words we started to feel, well, uneasy.
See it turns out there is no ‘legal’ definition of ‘Natural’ when it comes to beauty products, each manufacturer is free to define it as they wish and market their products as natural regardless of the ingredients they use – true story. This means companies can define 'Natural' on their own terms, ignoring the chemical processes and reactions that many raw materials go through as we engineer them for our purposes.
By the same token we also think there is a lot of scare mongering and frankly ill-informed views on what is good and bad for both the consumer and the environment being fed to us from different quarters.
So what to do? Well we decided to do our own bit of self branding, faux science, slight of hand, hoopla stuff and come clean, sort of like a gentlemen’s double bluff if you will.
That is, we believe in nature as a rule but we acknowledge that the moment you start tinkering; turning proteins into amino acids, splitting fat molecules, effecting hydrolysis, executing esterification or hydrogenation…well it just don’t feel all that Natural anymore.
SO, we are forced to believe in science...and we do believe.
The good news is there’s some crack hot science out there, simple science designed to make products perform better, behave more safely and be cleaner for you and the environment.
This is the kind of science we believe in, simple natural formulations engineered with honest intentions to produce progressive, safe products - sort of like alchemy, although if it were actual alchemy we may not be having this conversation.
We stand behind all our claims and will always strive to be at the forefront of this ethos that combines science and nature for your benefit. And if this ain’t enough, all our ingredients meet the criteria set out in the European Union Directive for Cosmetic Safety (the highest court in the land).

Our unique fragrances are a combination of the following natural ingredients;
A distinct and slightly medicinal smell — kind of like rosemary. It's a multifaceted forest scent with hints of mint, honey and citrus.
Citrus & fruity accents with a hint of spice and a rose smell of course. Often mistaken for 'the other' rose but with a less powdery and more lemony, herbaceous aroma, with a soft but potent warm green scent.
Sharp, aromatic, refreshing, grapefruit — from the peel of the fruit of the Citrus paradise tree — blended with with basil, lavender, cedarwood and ylang-ylang.
We all know the smell of orange; like any citrus, it has an upbeat and cheerful scent reminiscent of summer and warm weather. Considered a top note in regards to fragrance blending, orange blends well with warm scents such as cedarwood, juniper, clove, frankincense, lavender, sandalwood, and other citrus oils.
Marjoram is part of the mint family, and actually a sub-species of oregano. It's a delicate herb with a sweet, floral, lightly spiced fragrance.
Its aromatic, slightly musty odor comes from the volatile oils found largely in the flesh and skin.
YLANG YLANG OIL
Exotic, deep and floral, the extract has top notes of jasmine and neroli, a fruity facet reminiscent of banana, paired with creamy custard and tangy rubber.
The floral scent of jasmine is rich, sweet, fruity, and sensual. Unlike other flowers, Jasmine also has a slight animalistic edge that smells tenacious and musky. The combination of feminine sweetness and masculine wildness make the smell of jasmine universally attractive.
Is a plant oil produced from the blossom of the bitter orange tree. This essential oil has great therapeutic properties and unique smell. It has a wonderful rejuvenating and regenerative effect on the skin and adds to our bespoke fragrance in our YLF.
Patchouli is most often associated with the woody fragrance family because of its robust, earthy character, but it's used to create stunning oriental, fougère, and chypre fragrances as well. As a standalone note, most would agree that patchouli mainly smells earthy and musky.
Petitgrain Essential Oil originated from Paraguay and is extracted using steam distillation from the leaves and twigs of the Seville bitter orange tree. This oil has a woodsy, fresh scent with a hint of floral.
The essential oil itself is distilled from the pine needles, young shoots and even sometimes the cones of this familiar evergreen, producing an oil with a refreshing woody-spiciness that conjures up Christmas like nothing else.
It is a simultaneously sweet and spicy smell, giving ode to meadows, honey, and fruit notes. However, unlike other rose scents, the muskiness derives from the plant's stamen, whereas other aromas come from the flower petals. The scent of a rose usually does not spread far.
A fragrant essential oil with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. Sandalwood is a deep, woody scent and often smells like a mix of floral, rich, balsamic, soft, and sweet accents.
Spearmint Essential Oil smells minty, fresh and perhaps slightly fruity in aroma. It is somewhat less intense than peppermint.
The oakmoss scent is truly like being one with nature! It's rich in earthy tones, very much like a damp forest floor covered in lush greens and aromatic foliage. Not just content with beholding a crisp, green fragrance - it also has layers of muskiness, bark-like qualities and leathery undertones
Cedarwood has balsamic undertones and a camphoraceous odor that reminds you of an heirloom hope chest or a good aftershave. This aromatic wood scent can call to mind pencil shavings and fine cigar boxes, both of which are often manufactured from cedar.
Known as the “prince of citrus,” bergamot is a sunny and pleasant citrus scent featured in many perfumes as well as luxury candles. It's aroma is refreshing and rounded; sweet, but complex and deep at the same time; similar to lime, but with floral, herbal, and resinous undertones.
Almond is a soft, nutty fragrance note that may take sweet, bitter or slightly green nuances.
Peppermint essential oil can be extracted from the leaves of the peppermint plant and is used for a variety of purposes. It has a sharp odor that's cool and refreshing, and the taste is similar.
Lavender has a delicate, sweet smell that is floral, herbal, and evergreen woodsy at the same time. It has soft, powdery, or smokey notes as well. Some lavenders have a more medicinal camphor smell that is closer to the balsamic resin scent of rosemary.
Generally a dark brown color, the fragrance of clove essential oil is sweet and spicy due to the presence of eugenol
Cinnamon is one of the smells of Christmas: spicy and enticing, comforting and sweet, all at once.

Ginger is the lights, most refreshing of the spicy ingredients. It's simultaneously fresh, warm, sharp & spicy.
Vetiver smells dry, earthy, woody, leathery & smoky. Think of uncut grass on a warm day.
